With its flip style hinged body, this mobile looks a lot more stylish in comparison to other Senior phones and it worked straight out of the box after inserting an existing Vodafone PAYG SIM card. For me, the initial setup is relatively straightforward but technophobes will almost certainly need a helping hand. Thereafter, finding, calling and texting contacts stored on the phone is relatively straightforward using the big and easy to see and press buttons. The reception is strong and clear at both ends.
Features include a camera (extremely low quality blurry images and videos), FM radio, torch, alarm, speed dial, calculator, calendar, voice recorder and an SOS alarm. It also has a headphone socket, a built in speaker and comes with a handy USB charging cradle, USB cable, USB wall plug and a pair of basic earphones.
The reception on the FM radio is very good but you need to use earphones (the wire acts as an aerial) to get the clearest reception. With the earphones plugged in, you can choose to listen to the radio via the phone’s built in speaker.
It can be fitted with a MicroSD card for playing back music and photos and I've fitted it with a 32GB MicroSD card. Unfortunately, you need to go through a number of menus and sub menus to playback music and it’s far more complicated than just pressing a couple of buttons on a smartphone.
It also has Bluetooth but I'm not entirely convinced that a phone aimed at the senior market needs it – it's not always the most straightforward of technologies and when I paired the phone with a Jabra Bluetooth speaker, the sound was OK but not a massive upgrade on the playback from the phone’s speaker
To summarise, this is an OK phone but it falls between two stools. Anyone who really wants Bluetooth functionality and the ability to add a microSD card wouldn't be buying a phone that is basic in almost every other aspect. It's also more than double the price of a number of TTfone Senior phones that function more or less exactly the same but don't have the hinged flip design.
